Post: A number of years ago, a gaming company came out with the "Sims." The idea was that you could play these characters and simulate real life experiences. Along the way you could work a job, fall in love, and even clean your house. Admittedly, I've never played it. I'm sure that it's a great diversion and people really enjoy this. The thing that strikes me as funny though, is shouldn't they be busy doing this in their own lives? Nowadays gamers can choose which "skin" they'd like to wear. They can fantasize about actually being the character that's been created in these false digital worlds. I propose a de-emphasis on time spent gaming for today's youth. By reducing play time, they can spend time learning, building up their bodies, and socializing, as well as helping out with some chores around the house. Some studies say that children and teens are playing upwards of 15 hours weekly! If they'd like to work a job (gain real skills), fall in love (with an actual person), or clean their homes (it needs it), I recommend doing it in real time and in the real world.
